Older than You

My son and I were on an adventure. Like Frodo and Sam. Obviously I was Sam. Deep in the woods off any known path we meandered over dead trees and dried up brooks.

“Private property, gotta go to the other side of the brook”, a man sitting in his lawn chair with his chickens says to us. My son replies, “how can you own something that came before you?” Well, I know where he gets it from.

He’s right. Property is just a plethora of imaginary lines that are maintained by tax payments. He hopes that someday I can specifically tell that man to get off my property and I explain to him that this would accomplish nothing about human nature.

All I can do is teach my sons that people are people, only thing you have control over is yourself. They are not meant to understand these things, which is why I try and take the time to explain it. I know a little something, I am older than them after all.
